L-A: Last week, style icon Chloe Sevigny was spotted at the Coachella Music Festival wearing socks and sandals. Together.
But here’s the thing: why are we even talking about it? Seriously:
I don’t care what Teen Vogue, it’s llama or Burberry Prorsum think. Nor do I care if Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast approves of the look. I firmly believe the answer is always this:
Please say you agree with me, Ally!
AllyG: I’m conflicted. While I do not like socks with sandals per se, I do like the socks with Mary Janes look (Ok, seriously? My backspace button is broken. Aw! Maybe my computer thinks I’m perfect! You’re perfect too Delly!). I’m not going to lie, I do dig this look:
Remember in the 90’s when Mary Janes with thigh high hose was popular? A la Clueless with Alicia Silverstone (spl? even if it’s wrong I can’t backspace)? Well, Gossip Girls is making it popular again! And I ADORE (although I am 30 so I am not allowed to rock this when I am out shopping for fiber and wrinkle cream):
And look at Blair’s coloured tights! Am I going off track from the whole point of the post? I am aren’t I. So…to summarize, I do hate THIS:
I love, love, love THIS (which was my favorite look in the entire SATC movie. Also note that SJP is OVER THIRTY):
Do you still love me?
L-A: Of course I still love you! I can get behind the socks in cute shoes. I loved the mid-90s Clueless look and totally approve of Blake Lively/Serena’s sock/shoe combo. It’s just the sandals that get me. (although I cannot love SJP’s outfit. She kind of looks like a crazy homeless lady, one who has a good hairdresser). Sandals and socks, no matter how hard you try to make them stylish, they will always lead to the following:
this is not okay, so let’s not encourage it. Here’s a good rule of thumb: If you need socks, then you need shoes. If you’re wearing sandals, leave the socks at home.
And a P.S. to Ms. Sevigny: You are treading dangerously into old man footwear territory. I know you tried that look on at least two days of Coachella and it is not okay. Also: Coachella is in the desert and the temperatures are usually hitting around 30+ degrees (celsius; that’s about 86 farenheit) around this time of year, so why? why wear the socks? It’s not like your feet were cold!
