AllyG: That title doesn’t even fit under So Cheese it’s Good, but I’m keeping it. I thought I’d take some time today to share with you my latest obsession. No, it’s not Leonardo Dicaprio (can someone riddle me WHY he hasn’t been chosen Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine yet? Johnny Depp? For real? That’s original). Here’s a photo of him, just cause!
No, my latest obsession is all things Veronica Etro. I came upon her designs while reading the latest issue of Fashion magazine, the one with Taylor Momsen on the cover.
Can I take a quick minute to plug Fashion mag? They aren’t paying me I swear it! I love this magazine so much that I have canceled my subscription to People. For those who know me, they know what a huge deal this is. While on mat leave, I had to make some tough, tough financial decisions. One of them was cutting my magazine purchases (El Jeffe doesn’t know that sometimes BabyG and I walk down to the Shoppers to purchase said magazines and then hide them among the others in the magazine rack at home…wha? BabyG likes to be read to!). Fashion mag is incredibly cheap, and I mean that in the kindest way. It’s Canadian, and it’s completely chaulk full of fabulous photos of the latest designs with a focus on our own Canuck designers. One complaint is that they need to focus a bit more on the East Coast, they get as far as Montreal in the City Notes section.
As I was saying, the latest issue of Fashion features a beautiful skirt by Etro . Sadly, I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find a pic of it (pg. 153 in the spread “Be Dazzled”…can anyone from Fashion magazine help me out?). I believe it is from the F/W 2009 line since it combines some really different fabrics and textiles. Similar to this look from the same collection.
I love all things Boho, proof in that I’m one of the few who doesn’t tear MaryKate a new one for wearing her “bag lady” clothes.
Yup. I’m totally ok with that look (except for the cowboy boots).
Etro’s fall collection reminds me of the costume jewellery I adore. The more beads and junk, the better. I thought I’d hit up Style.com and see what Etro has for Spring. Soooo glad I did! It’s boho heaven!
I plan to teach my children that violence is not necessary. Until it’s necessary. This, my friends, I would rip off the model in order to have as my own. The whole thing, right down to the shoes. The best are the shorts. They are the most beautiful things I have ever seen, second to BabyG. Love the way they hang, love the fabric detail at the bottom, love the pockets, especially love the buttons.
Now, I’m not sure how much cleave you could get away with at the office, but I dig this outfit overall. We recently spoke of my love for rolled up blazers, this is no exception. Also love the fit of the pants, loose, flowing, but still show off shape.
This look reeks of rich bitch. And I love me a rich bitch.
I didn’t realize I was into the whole “sheer” thing. It’s naughty, but still klassy! This trollop is all growed-up!
Some people would call this “busy” (like my mother), I call it saucy. You can’t have too much going on. You just can’t. However, I also adore the following outfit. The same outfit that makes L-A cry out for the Baby Jesus whenever she sees it.
I’d wear it. I kid you not.
Before I forget! It’s Favourite Friday! You know what that means…crappy pop music video for your morning mimosa shuffle! For an extra special treat, this week’s video isn’t even crappy!
Have a fabulous weekend, kittens,
P.S. Check back lates, L-A will be adding her two cents soon. She’s just “sleeping one off” again. HA! She loves me.
L-A: I wish I was sleeping one off. I didn’t sleep well this week and by the time I got home last night I was so tired that I was stupid tired. I was “Hey, you look awful” tired. I was the kind of tired you can’t hide with concealer and coffee. So I was in bed before 9pm and slept until 8am. (I’m hanging out with Ally in real life today and she will probably tear me a new one for complaining about how tired I am and then for sleeping almost 12 hours without being woken up by a munchkin who needs to eat).
So, that’s why it’s taken me so long to get to writing for today. Now on to my favourites.
I’m a TV junkie in the way that Ally is a celeb gossip junkie. I’ve been known to read various tv blogs and I follow the LA Times Showtracker on Twitter. So I’ve got at least a couple of favourite TV shows at any given time (remember how much I talked about Glee this summer. Totally worth it, wasn’t it?). A recent comment from guest blogger Ange made me decide that I need to start building excitement for Friday Night Lights (unless you’re American and have DirectTV, in which case, you should be watching it already). Here’s a promo for the show:
Seriously. It’s the little show that could (because even NBC hasn’t killed it yet and lord knows they’ve tried. Friday night time slot? Kiss of death. But it’s still on. Take that, Ben Silverman!). The opening credits alone make me verklempt. The promo with Tyra’s college admissions letter? Yeah, I was in tears watching that this morning. Bonus, in the words of a wise friend (possibly a friend being a wise ass…but if he was, I’m ignoring it), “Riggins is dreamy.”
He’s hot enough to make want to watch football. Although, I do not remember football players being this hot when I was in university (my high school didn’t do football. Did you know that El Jeffe and I went to the same university and I didn’t know it until I saw it on the facebook? True story. Which of course you didn’t know). This show almost makes me want to learn the rules of football and want to wear cowboy boots (I doubt it. Although the Frenchy’s on Almon was cowboy boot heaven recently – in case that is your thing).
I think I’m pulling an Ally here and just totally wandering off the topic and not even touching on the subject of clothes. I’m not usually an Etro fan, but I like the suits. I vomited a little when I saw that SJP/Carrie Bradshaw number. Seriously, we need to stop posting pictures of that getup. It sends me into convulsions and I don’t want to encourage people to dress like that. But I totally agree with her on Fashion. I love when I peek in my mailbox and I see Fashion waiting for me. (you’d think that Ally and I would coordinate our subscriptions and trade magazines after reading them. But no. We do not. Probably because I hoard all of my back issues).
On the subject of fashion, I love the pre-Christmas season sales that are popping up around town. Tax-free at Foreign Affair today (ooh…I’ve been contemplating buying a pair of Hunter boots…today might be the day) and at Pretty Things tomorrow (the Pretty Things sale is for online orders as well – for you non-Halifax ladies). Biscuit is having a buy one/get the other half priced sale starting Monday. All of this means you can get yourself prettied up even more for holiday parties.
Final favourite of the day: Lu Crème Roulée cookies. Holy mother of god those cookies are good (I bought chocolate-hazlenut – which is like having nutella rolled up in a wafer). How is it I have lived without them? Seriously. So cute and so tasty with my coffee. I’d bring my tin with me to coffee with Ally and Pickles, but I was thinking I’d surprise them with cupcakes instead (Ally and I won free cupcakes from Susie’s Shortbreads when they had a twitter contest!). Now that I am in love with this cookie, I need to get my hands on the Erin Fetherston tin. I can totally get behind collaborations with cookie companies.
Anyway, that’s my méli-mélo of a Friday. I’m going to go get my hair did now so I look pretty for Ally (and because it looks très shaggy and not at all Anna Wintour-ish). Remember pretties: Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose. Enjoy your weekend.
