Fashionable People, Questionable Things. | FPQT hearts Jason Wu – and so can you | Fashionable People, Questionable Things.

L-A: You guys, guess what today is? Other than Thursday? It’s Jason Wu for Target pop-up shop day in Toronto! It’s at 363 King St. W. and all the proceeds are going to United Way Toronto. It’s a total win when buying pretty things for yourself goes to a good cause. And as promised yesterday, we’ve got something special for all y’all.

And while we’ve come to accept that we won’t be there, we can watch videos of the NYC launch party and pretend that we were and that we’d look as uncomfortable as Chloe Moretz to have Blake Lively being our shopping chum.

I totally want to make Emmy Rossum my BFF now. She calls it Targé and is really into eating those macarons. And she doesn’t pretend like she knows fashion. She just likes nice things. I bet she actually shops at Target. This is why we’d probably get along.

Anyway. Just because we can’t be at the pop up shop doesn’t mean we’re missing out on all the fun. Oh no! Not the case at all.  That’s because Target (can someone start a countdown clock to when Target arrives in Canada?) has given us a gift from the Jason Wu for Target collection so that we can share the pop-up shop love with all y’all who can’t be on King W. at noon today.

Let’s get down to brass tacks shall we.

What is the gift?

Well, the gift is a surprise (for now), but considering how much we enjoy the looks of the collection, you can bet it’ll be swell. NOT ANYMORE! Just keep reading to see what you can win.  (I wrote this post last night).

More importantly, how can I win it?

As we adore judging like French Figure Skating Judges, we’ve had to come up with some sort of qualification to enter. It can’t just be a simple “enter me!” sort of deal. And it will be possible to have more than one entry. So here’s what we want you to do.

1. Comment about how much you want Target in Canada and/or the lengths you’d go to get your hands on a capsule collection. (Please be creative and amuse us. We know you can do it). This will earn you one entry.

2. Tweet about the same – how much you want #TargetCanada to be here already or the lengths you’d go for a collection like Jason Wu’s. Be sure to mention us (@FPQT) so we know you’ve entered. This will earn you your second entry.

The winner will be picked, totally at random, later today. Maybe it’ll be you.

Ally: An update of what the giveaway includes!

·         Floral print bag: This is NOT EVEN AVAILABLE AT THE POP-UP STORE!

·         Printed scarf

·         Taste of Target exclusive “Target Hearts Canada” tote (made for the T-dot event!)

·         Plush Target Bullseye dog

Don’t say we don’t love you.

I want it so bad that I would be willing to violate my work’s social media policy and tweet it on the (municipal goverment) official account.
    I won’t, but I’m willing.

  2. Jill says:

I need these things! And I NEED Target to come to Canada because otherwise it’ll be really awkward to explain to my boyfriend why I’m trolling eBay to find a MiuMiu bike for less than ten grand.

On a somewhat related note, I’m pretty sure that a visit to the first Target store in Halifax should be an official FPQT event, or joint event with Yelp, or something. In short, it should be a party and I should be invited.

  3. Amy says:

Thanks to the Vampire Child, I rarely make it further than Bedford to go shopping, which means 90% of my clothes over the past year have come from Joe Fresh. Which is fine – Joe Fresh is awesome and I’m not knocking it at all – but it’ll be so nice to have some variety once Target gets here. So hurry, Tar-Jay! HURRY HARD. Mama needs new pants.

  4. Mel says:

Oh Target (pronounced Targé, but of course). We here in Halifax wait a long time for cool things. H&M, Sephora,Old Navy (back in the day, those Old Navy branded sweaters were what all the cool kids who went away on vacay came back with) the rest of the world had these things before we even knew what they were. Target is no exception really. Sure, we have other big box stores here, but nothing quite as cool and stylish as Target.

Target pretty much invented the guest designer thing, everybody else just got on board. Point Isaac Mizrahi.

It’s also my desperate hope that one day, Halifax will embrace the idea of the pop-up store. That stuff is seriously cool. We can be a cool city. Therefore, that needs to happen.

Until then, I will continue to longingly look at stuff on the internet and dream of the better days ahead where affordable and stylish clothes are once again in my life thanks to Target.

Also, as a self respecting (and proclaimed) crazy cat lady, I pretty much need that scarf.

  5. Ellie says:

I cannot WAIT for target to come to Canada, especially our fair city of Halifax. It will eliminate me forcing my mother to go on clothing hunting sessions in downtown Toronto, with only her non-camera cell phone and printed pictures that I send her. Gotta say, she’s a trooper! Please don’t force her butt all the way to King St West because I needs me a cute kitty tote. Because I swear I’ll do it.

And I totally agree Jill — need a FPQT/Yelp Target extravaganza event for sure!

  6. Rhia says:

Why do I need target? Can I just say this and leave it at that?

Plus even their maternity clothes are stylish (I spent a lot of time looking at them, forlorn, while expecting) which this town needs more of.

  7. Jennie S says:

I am willing to make some pretty unreasonable sacrifices for fashion, and a chance to have a Target close to home? well… let’s just say the last time I went to a Target, I may or may not have spent my entire weekend budget for a trip to Connecticut on the first day, forcing me to go back to said Target and return exactly enough clothing so I could feed myself with the cheapest possible food options for the remaining 2 days…

I would love a new purse, and there is nothing that makes me weaker in the knees than a summery floral print and hilarious cats in bow ties… but I also would like to be able to keep feeding myself. Help a sister out ;)

You know why I can’t wait for Target to come to Canada? I’m a musician, y’all. Sure, my kind have been erroneously labeled as “elite” and “snobs”, but in reality, you should see the number of Suzy Shier tags that adorn the insides of my concert clothes. We artists, save for the lucky few, don’t have tons of playing around money for pretty things, so having an affordable store in town that sells trendy clothes that won’t bust a seam backstage (this has happened to me and I will therefore never buy pants from Smart Set ever again), well that sounds pretty fab. Plus now my American friends will no longer be able to lord it over me (if I had a nickel for every time I complimented someone’s outfit and they said, “I got it at Target!”)…

  9. Vanessa says:

I want a Target in Halifax really badly so I can get nice things without paying a ton. I’ve got champagne taste and a baby duck budget! If a capsule collection came here, I would legit take a day off work and stand in the cold all night in line. (I did that once for a BSB concert and it was not a pleasant experience) It would be worth it!

Also I really need that crazy cat lady scarf! I can wear it while talking out loud to my cat, in the bathroom with the door open, because according to a new NYT article those are “quirks” that single home dwellers have.

  10. Ann says:

Are you effing kidding me? THOSE THINGS ARE GORGEOUS! Cat scarf for the cat lady librarian? HOW PERFECT CAN YOU GET?

Apparently, Targe (don’t know how to make the accent thingie on my laptop) will be coming to Saskatoon, the centre of the world, in 2013. I would do ANYTHING to get Target in Canada, for reals. Famous designers making cute household objects and clothing? On my frugal budget? Be still my heart! OH MY GOD I HAVE TO WIN. K THX BYE.

  11. TracyD says:

I can’t wait for Target to arrive in Halifax! Fortunately, the Zellers in Bedford is switching and it’s a 5 minute walk from work! I guess we know where I will be during my lunch hours.

  12. Jennie says:

I would so love to win the Jason Wu collection for Target, I am a huge fan of both Jason Wu and Target. I count myself lucky to have picked up a couple of the missoni for target items (even if it was just a travel pillow and a cosmetic bag)and would love to add a couple of Jason Wu items to the collection! It also excites me so very much that so time in the future we may actually have a target here in Halifax and not have to go to the states to partake in these exciting collaborations.

  13. Megan says:

Target! Come to Canada and bring all these fun kitty cat designs to us!

  14. Sue O says:

I want Target’s affordable loveliness so much I would go to Dartmouth. On the bus. If there was a bus to take to Dartmouth.

If the buses never come back I might even call those cousins in Dartmouth that I never call.

  15. Meghan says:

I love to shop; my better half and I have planned entire trips around outlet malls, flagship stores and fashion landmarks. Nothing says I love you like a pair of leopard print pumps for Valentine’s Day!

I decide how expensive things are using my patented “Halifax Index”. It goes like this: Can you buy it in Halifax? Nope…must be expensive. Target coming turns my affordability index on its head. I will have to start praying to the fashion gods that they will carry these amazing designer collections. Aren’t we all disappointed in H&M Dartmouth for not carrying the designer collections? Ok, I didn’t really miss the Versace for H&M but you know what I mean.

  16. jennifer says:

Who doesn’t want Target to come to Canada!Problem is I will have to start storing my shoes in the kitchen Cupboards….as for Jason Wu, who wouldn’t want to wear the same clothes as Michelle Obama!

  17. Breanne says:

I don’t live in Canada, but my ancestors were from there, so I am counting it for my own amusement. I want a piece from this collection so bad, but yet it was sold out or wasn’t what I was looking for. That scarf, that bag, well I need them so I can channel my far fetched dream of being as chic as Audrey Hepburn. No, but really. I have dreams of this and when I wake up n the morning it is… it is just disappointing.

  18. Katy M says:

To win, I would wear the bag and scarf for the rest of my natural days on earth- and nothing else!

    Thanks!
